Our Story
Meritocracy Avenue was founded by Kathleen Lieberman on a simple conviction: a serious liberal-arts education should be within reach of everyone, free of charge. We created it as a response to a hard truth – that American students are falling behind, and that too many people are shut out of the education and opportunity they deserve – in the hope of helping to reverse it.
We take our name from an old and hopeful idea: that people rise by their talents and character, the way a symphony orchestra makes music – every instrument mastered, all playing one score together.

Who We Are
Meritocracy Avenue is a nonprofit liberal-arts education program (EIN 82-2396148) serving the public. Our name states our belief plainly: advancement should come by talent, skill, ingenuity, ability, and the willingness to strive for excellence – not by class, wealth, privilege, or connection. We are supported by donors, sponsors, and volunteers who share that conviction.
What We Do
Division I – Education. Free liberal-arts courses and learning resources, from foundational ideas to practical skills – including early-learning work like Taylynn’s World, where everyday experiences become lessons in mathematics, ethics, and more.
Division II – Recovery. Programs and events that help people jumpstart recovery from addiction, PTSD, and mental illness, and that support the communities most affected by them.
